You can have Claude carry out recurring tasks: every morning, weekly or at a moment you choose. That way an overview or report is ready without you having to ask for it each time. And whatever the task prepares, a writing action or a shipment always comes as a draft that you approve first.
Work that sets itself up
Some things you would rather not ask for again every time. An overview of your outstanding items every morning, an order report every Monday: with a scheduled task you let Claude prepare that automatically, at a rhythm you choose. When you start working, it is already waiting for you.
Scheduled tasks are part of Claude Cowork. You describe a task once, and Cowork then runs it by itself at the chosen moment: pulling figures, making an analysis, preparing an overview or draft. The difference with a one-off question is that it happens on a fixed rhythm, without you kicking it off every time. If you want an overview that you would rather refresh yourself at any moment instead of at a set time, take a look at building dashboards in Claude.
Scheduled tasks work in Claude Cowork on a paid Claude subscription (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise). They run in the cloud, so also when your computer is asleep or the app is closed.
You decide, the task prepares
Important to know: a scheduled task never carries out a final write action or send action on its own. It reads your administration and prepares things, and as soon as something needs to be recorded or sent, it comes as a draft that you approve. You can read how that approval works exactly in creating and editing data in Claude.
Happens automatically
Pulling figures, making analyses and preparing overviews or drafts. This reads and prepares, and changes nothing in your administration.
Waits for your approval
Recording something in your administration or sending an email. That comes ready as a draft; you approve it before it becomes final.
How to set up a scheduled task
You do not have to program anything. You describe in plain language what needs to happen and at what rhythm.
1Test the task first. Run the question once in Cowork to see whether the result is correct. That way you know for sure the scheduled version will run smoothly too.
2Schedule it. Type /schedule in your Cowork task or go to the Scheduled tab in the sidebar, and choose the rhythm: every day, every week, on working days, monthly or a moment of your own.
3Claude runs it automatically. Each run is its own session in which the current figures from your administration are retrieved. The result is ready as soon as the task is done.
4View and manage it in the Scheduled tab. There you can see the scheduled and completed runs, and adjust a task or stop it whenever you like.
What you can schedule
A few tasks that work well on a fixed rhythm. You ask for them in plain language and adjust them to your own timing and content.
Morning overview of outstanding items
Every working day a fresh overview of your outstanding accounts receivable, so you start the day with a clear view of what needs to come in.
Example: "Every working day at 8:00, prepare an overview of my outstanding accounts receivable for me."
Weekly order report
Every week an overview of your outstanding sales orders and expected delivery dates, so you start the week with a plan in place.
Example: "Every Monday morning, create an overview of my outstanding sales orders with their expected delivery date."
Daily delivery date check with draft emails
Every morning the orders with a delivery date of today or tomorrow, with a draft email per customer already prepared. You review and send.
Example: "Every morning, retrieve the orders with a delivery date of today or tomorrow and prepare a draft email for each customer."
Here's how to start
Start with one task that you now do manually every day or week, for example your morning overview of outstanding items. Run the question once first to see whether the result is correct, then schedule it and expand from there. If a task does not work quite the way you want, you adjust it in the Scheduled tab.
Tip: not sure what is useful to schedule? Just ask, for example "Which of my recurring tasks can I automate as a scheduled task?"
