Connect your ERP environment to Microsoft Copilot and ask your bookkeeping questions in plain language. In Copilot Studio you build an agent that pulls your figures straight from your ERP and, after your approval, also prepares actions.
Do you want to connect your ERP to Microsoft Copilot? In Copilot Studio you build an agent that can query and update your ERP administration. Once the connector is in place, you ask a question and get an answer from your live ERP data.
Below you go through connecting Copilot to your ERP step by step, with example questions and points of attention. Are you looking for the general explanation, separate from a specific tool? You will find it in How does the iWeb AI Connect connector work?
Does Copilot work with your ERP?
Yes. Copilot works with your ERP through iWeb AI Connect, a connector based on MCP (Model Context Protocol). This protocol lets you give an AI agent secure access to an external data source. You add the connector in Copilot Studio and link your ERP environment once through the secure connection page of iWebDevelopment. After that your agent works with your figures in plain language.
Connecting your ERP to Copilot, step by step
This is the connector link that you add to Copilot Studio:
https://mcp-afas.iwebdevelopment.com
Requires access to Copilot Studio, through a Copilot Studio licence or a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. With a trial licence you can test first in the test pane; publishing to Teams or Copilot is only possible with a paid licence. Make sure generative orchestration is enabled. Your agent's environment also needs Copilot Credits, otherwise Microsoft blocks every action.
1Open your agent in Copilot Studio and go to Tools.
2Click Add a tool and then New tool.
3Choose Model Context Protocol.
4Give the connector a name (for example iWeb AI Connect), a short description, and paste the connector link into the Server URL field.
6Click Create and then Add to agent. You are redirected to the connection page of iWebDevelopment to connect your ERP environment.
Please note: Copilot Studio is an environment for building agents, not an ordinary chat. Have you not set that up yet? We are happy to help you get started.
What can you ask Copilot about your bookkeeping?
As soon as your agent uses the connector, you work with your ERP administration in plain language. Copilot reads your figures and can, with your approval, also prepare actions. A few examples:
"How much VAT do I need to pay this period?"
"Which purchase invoices have a due date this week?"
"Prepare a draft purchase entry and split the amount across the cost centres."
"Which items have been open the longest?"
So it reads and prepares, but you stay in control: write actions are first made ready as a draft and only enter the ERP administration after your approval. What is possible depends on the rights you grant to the App Connector. Curious what the connector can do? You can read about it in How does the iWeb AI Connect connector work?
Is the connector with Copilot secure?
Your administration stays in your ERP. Through the rights on the App Connector you decide exactly what Copilot may view and which actions are allowed, so no password goes to the AI tool. You can find the full security and privacy explanation in the general connector article.
Solving problems
The message that Copilot users most often run into:
Message: "You need credits to continue"
This message comes from Microsoft, not from the connector. Agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot that carry out external actions, such as retrieving data from your ERP, consume Copilot Credits. These fall outside the standard Copilot licence. If the environment in which your agent runs has no credits left, Microsoft blocks all actions of that agent, even when the connector is set up correctly.
Your IT administrator resolves this in the Power Platform admin center, in three ways:
1Redistribute capacity. Assign credits that remain unused elsewhere in the tenant to your agent's environment.
2Buy extra credits. Purchase a Copilot Credits package through the Microsoft 365 admin center and connect it to the right environment.
3Set up pay-as-you-go. Connect a billing policy to an Azure subscription and pay afterwards for the actual usage.
iWeb AI Connect works with more than just Copilot, and with the other assistants you don't need Copilot Credits or any setup in Azure. Simply follow the steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity.
Frequently asked questions
No, the connector lives in Copilot Studio, the environment where you build agents. You need a licence for that, although you can test it first with the free 30-day trial. Also make sure generative orchestration is switched on, otherwise your agent cannot use the connector.
The connector is not part of the regular Copilot chat. In Copilot Studio you build an agent that uses the connector. You then roll out that agent to your team, for example in Microsoft Teams, so colleagues can ask it questions right away.
You do, through the rights on the app connector in your ERP. That lets you set exactly what Copilot may read and which actions are allowed. No password goes to the AI tool and your records stay in your ERP.
Yes, besides reading, your agent can prepare actions, such as a sales invoice or a purchase entry split across cost centres. These are first set up as a draft and only go into your records after your approval, always within the rights of the App Connector.
For the first 30 days you try the connector free with your own ERP environment. If you like it, you then choose a subscription that fits your usage. Contact iWebDevelopment for the current rates.
