Does Claude work with Exact Online?

Yes. Claude works with Exact Online through Exact AI Connect. This connector uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard from Anthropic that lets AI assistants securely retrieve data from software. You install the connector as an app in Claude, log in to Exact Online once and after that you simply ask your questions in the chat.

The nice thing about Claude is that the connector works on all subscriptions, including the free account. This often makes Claude the fastest way to try out the connector without any barrier.

Connecting Exact Online with Claude, step by step

You install the connector as an app in Claude.

Install
1Click Install and log in with your Claude account. This works on all plans, including the free one.
2On the app page, click Install. If you work in a Team or Enterprise account without admin rights, it will say Request and your request goes straight to your organisation's administrator.
3In Claude, click Connect next to the connector. Your browser opens the Exact Online login screen. Log in and click Authorise. You only need to do this once.
4Open a new chat and ask your first question.
Tip: you turn the connector on and off per conversation using the + button at the bottom left, under Connectors.
Not working right away? Are you using the Claude desktop app? Close it completely (on Mac with Cmd+Q, the cross only closes the window) and start it again.

What can you ask Claude about your bookkeeping?

Once the connector is in place, you talk to your administration in plain language. Claude reads along in your figures and can, with your approval, also prepare things. A few examples:

"Which customers still have outstanding invoices and how long have those been open?"
"Put this quarter's revenue next to last quarter and show the difference."
"Give me an overview of my largest debtors."
"Draft a friendly payment reminder for the invoices that have been open for more than 30 days."

So reading and doing, but you always stay in control: actions such as creating an invoice or sending an email are first prepared by Claude as a draft. Is the connector with Claude safe?

Your bookkeeping stays in Exact Online. You log in through the secure authorisation of Exact Online itself, so you never share your password with the AI tool, and you can revoke access at any time from your Exact Online account. No. You install the app in Claude and log in to Exact Online once. You do not need to install anything in Exact Online itself or change any settings. From that moment on you simply ask your questions in the chat.

In Team and Enterprise accounts, only the owner or an administrator may add connectors. The app page then shows Request instead of Install. Click it and your request goes straight to the administrator of your organisation.

Besides reading, Claude can also prepare actions, such as creating an invoice or drafting a payment reminder. Such actions are first set up as a draft and are only carried out after you approve them. So nothing ever changes in Exact Online without your consent.
