Does Perplexity work with Exact Online?
Yes. Perplexity works with Exact Online through Exact AI Connect. Under the hood the connector uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard for connecting AI to your own tools and data. You add the connector as a custom connector, authorise once at Exact Online and then ask your questions in the chat. Custom connectors work on Perplexity Pro, Max and Enterprise.
Connecting Exact Online with Perplexity, step by step
This is the connector link that you add to Perplexity:

Requires Perplexity Pro, Max or Enterprise. On a free account you cannot add your own connector.
1Go to Account settings and choose All settings → Connectors.
2Click + Custom connector in the top right and choose Remote.
3Give the connector a name (for example Exact AI Connect) and paste the connector link into the server URL field.
4Tick that you understand custom connectors can carry risks and click Add.
5Click the connector to start the authorisation. You are redirected to Exact Online. Log in and click Authorise. You only have to do this once.
6In the chat, click the + (Connectors and sources), switch on Exact AI Connect and ask your question.
Tip: is the connector ready but you get no answer from your figures? Check whether Exact AI Connect is ticked under the + menu before you ask your question.
What can you ask Perplexity about your bookkeeping?
With the connector active you query your administration directly. Perplexity pulls the figures from Exact Online and can, after your approval, also prepare actions. A few examples:
"What were my five largest cost items last quarter?"
"Give me the revenue per month for this year."
"Which customers are buying less this year than last year?"
"Create an overview of my outstanding invoices with the total amount."

Is the connector with Perplexity safe?
Your bookkeeping data stays in Exact Online. You log in through the secure authorisation of Exact Online itself, so you do not share your password with Perplexity, and you can revoke the access whenever you want. More about safety and privacy can be found in the general connector article.

Which Perplexity subscription do I need?
Custom connectors work on Perplexity Pro, Max and Enterprise. On a free account you cannot add your own connector. Connectors are set at account level, so you have them available in all your conversations.
Why do I get no answer from my figures?
Check whether Exact AI Connect is ticked under the + menu (Connectors and sources) before you ask your question. If the connector is switched off for that conversation, Perplexity does not retrieve any data from Exact Online.
Can Perplexity also change things in my administration?
Besides looking things up, Perplexity can also prepare actions, such as an invoice or a reminder. They are only carried out after you approve them. You stay in control.
