Does Perplexity work with AFAS Profit?
Yes. Perplexity works with AFAS Profit through AFAS AI Connect, a connector based on MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that connects AI with your own software. You add the connector as a custom connector. You do not log in at AFAS itself. You enter the details of your AFAS Profit environment on the connection page of iWebDevelopment. This works on Perplexity Pro, Max and Enterprise.
Connecting AFAS Profit with Perplexity, step by step
This is the connector link you add to Perplexity:

Requires Perplexity Pro, Max or Enterprise. On a free account you cannot add your own connector.
1Go to Account settings and choose All settings → Connectors.
2Click + Custom connector in the top right and choose Remote.
3Give the connector a name (for example AFAS AI Connect) and paste the connector link into the server URL field.
4Tick the box confirming you understand that custom connectors can carry risks and click Add.
5Click the connector to connect. You are redirected to the connection page of iWebDevelopment. Enter the details of your AFAS Profit environment and connect. You only have to do this once.
6In the chat, click the + (Connectors and sources), switch on AFAS AI Connect and ask your question.
Tip: is the connector ready but you are not getting answers from your figures? Check that AFAS AI Connect is ticked under the + menu before you ask your question.
What can you ask Perplexity about your bookkeeping?
Once the connector is active, you query your AFAS Profit administration directly. Perplexity looks up the answer in your figures and can, after your approval, also prepare something. A few examples:
"Which sales relations generate the most revenue this year?"
"Which payments have not yet been matched to an invoice?"
"Look up the outstanding items of a specific debtor."
"Prepare a draft credit note for sales relation X."
Looking up and preparing then, with you in control. An action is first prepared as a draft and only processed in AFAS Profit after your approval. Is the connector with Perplexity safe?
Your bookkeeping data stays in AFAS Profit. Through the rights on the App Connector you decide exactly which data Perplexity may view and which actions are allowed; you do not share your password with the AI tool. Which Perplexity subscription do I need?
You need Perplexity Pro, Max or Enterprise; with a free account you cannot add a custom connector. The connector sits at account level and is therefore available in all your conversations.
Why am I not getting answers from my figures?
Check that AFAS AI Connect is ticked under the + menu (Connectors and sources) before you ask your question. If you still get nothing back, check whether the right permissions have been granted to the App Connector.
Can Perplexity also change things in my administration?
Yes. In addition to looking things up, Perplexity can also prepare actions, such as a sales invoice or a credit note. These are only carried out after you approve them, and stay within the rights of the App Connector.
