Does Claude work with Exact Online?
Yes. Claude works with Exact Online through Exact AI Connect. That connector uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard from Anthropic that lets AI assistants securely retrieve data from software. You add one connector link to Claude, log in to Exact Online once and after that you simply ask your questions in the chat.
The nice thing about Claude: the connector works on all subscriptions, including the free account. That often makes Claude the fastest way to try out the connector without any barrier.
Connecting Exact Online with Claude, step by step

1In the left sidebar, click Customize.
2In the menu, click Connectors.
3Click the + next to Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
4Give the connector a name (for example Exact AI Connect) and paste the connector link into the URL field. Click Add.
5Click Connect next to the connector. Your browser opens the Exact Online login screen. Log in and click Authorise. You only have to do this once.
6Open a new chat and ask your first question.
Tip: you turn the connector on and off per conversation with the + button at the bottom left, under Connectors.
Not working right away? Are you using the Claude desktop app? Close it completely (on Mac with Cmd+Q, the cross only closes the window) and start it again.
What can you ask Claude about your bookkeeping?
Once the connector is set up, you talk to your administration in plain language. Claude reads along in your figures and can, with your approval, also prepare things. A few examples:
"Which customers still have outstanding invoices and how long have they been open?"
"Put this quarter's revenue next to last quarter and show the difference."
"Give me an overview of my largest debtors."
"Draft a friendly payment reminder for the invoices that have been open for more than 30 days."
So reading and doing, but you always stay in control: actions such as creating an invoice or sending an email are first prepared by Claude as a draft. Is the connector with Claude safe?
Your bookkeeping stays in Exact Online. You log in through Exact Online's own secure authorisation, so you never share your password with the AI tool, and you can revoke access at any time from your Exact Online account. No. You paste one connector link into Claude and log in to Exact Online once. You do not have to install anything or change any settings. From that moment you simply ask your questions in the chat.
Can Claude also change things in my administration?
Besides reading, Claude can also prepare actions, such as creating an invoice or sending a reminder. The connector first prepares such actions as a draft; they are only carried out after you approve them. You stay in charge.
Does it work in the Claude app and on claude.ai?
Yes, both. Have you added the connector in the desktop app and do not see it right away? Then close the app completely (on Mac with Cmd+Q) and start it again.
