Exact Online AI koppeling

Do you want to connect Exact Online with Mistral? The AI assistant from the French company Mistral AI, which was called Le Chat until recently and is now named Vibe, supports custom connectors, even on a free account. You add Exact AI Connect in a few minutes and then query your bookkeeping in the chat, with answers from your live administration in Exact Online.

Below you can read how to connect Mistral with Exact Online, what you can ask and what to watch out for. Are you looking for the general explanation, separate from a specific AI tool? You will find it in How does the Exact AI Connect connector work?

Does Mistral work with Exact Online?

Yes. Mistral works with Exact Online through Exact AI Connect. The connector uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to your own tools and data. In Mistral this is called a Custom MCP Connector. You add it on chat.mistral.ai, authorise once with Exact Online and then ask your questions in the chat. If you prefer to work with a European AI provider, Mistral is an obvious choice.

Connecting Exact Online with Mistral, step by step

This is the connector link you add to Mistral:

https://mcp-exactonline.iwebdevelopment.com
You need administrator rights to add a connector. On Free, Pro and Student you are automatically an administrator as the account owner. If you work with Team or Enterprise, ask your administrator.
1Go to chat.mistral.ai and open Connectors in the sidebar.
2Click + Add Connector and choose the Custom MCP Connector tab.
3For Connector name enter a name without spaces or punctuation, for example ExactAIConnect. Paste the connector link into the Server URL field.
4Click Connect. Mistral recognises how to log in and sends you on to Exact Online. Log in and click Authorise. You only need to do this once.
5Start a conversation in Work, check in the tools menu that ExactAIConnect is switched on and ask your question.
Tip: under Connectors → My Connectors open ExactAIConnect and choose the Functions tab. There you decide per function whether Mistral asks for permission first. Functions that only retrieve data can be set to Always allow. Leave functions that create or change something on manual approval.

What can you ask Mistral about your accounting?

Once the connector is active, you query your administration directly. Mistral retrieves the figures from Exact Online and can, with your approval, also create or change data. A few examples:

"What is my gross margin per month over this year?"
"Which customers bought from us last year but not yet this year?"
"How much is outstanding in purchase invoices that fall due this month?"
"Add a new contact person to this relation."

If you want Mistral to create or change something, it first asks for permission. Only then is it recorded in Exact Online. A complete overview of the possibilities can be found in How does the Exact AI Connect connector work?

Is the connector with Mistral secure?

Your accounting data stays in Exact Online. You log in through the secure authorisation of Exact Online itself, so you do not share your password with Mistral, and you can remove the access whenever you want. More about security and privacy can be found in the general connector article.

Please note: on Free, Pro and Student, Mistral uses your conversations by default to train its models. If you work with financial data, turn that off in the admin panel of your account. On Enterprise, training is off by default; on Team, the administrator can turn off training for the whole organisation. Data that Mistral retrieves through a connector is, according to Mistral, never used to train models.
