The best AI connectors for Exact Online in 2026 compared

Seven AI connectors for Exact Online side by side: prices, options and honest guidance for each situation.

Vijf AI-koppelingen vergeleken, een springt eruit

We believe that in a young market you have to compare with extra honesty. The market for AI connectors on Exact Online is changing rapidly: providers adjust prices and capabilities every month, and long track records barely exist yet. Anyone who tells you there is one best choice for everyone probably has something to sell you.

That is why we place seven providers side by side, including ourselves, with the strengths of the competition simply listed alongside. We will give away the outcome right now: if you want to read, write and run analyses in a single connector, then Exact AI Connect comes out as the most complete in this comparison. Where another wins, we say so honestly. All these connectors work through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that connects AI assistants with software; you can read how exactly that works here. All prices were checked in July 2026.

Which AI assistants each connector supports can be read at the providers below; the short answer is in the frequently asked questions.

The providers list their prices partly excluding VAT, and rates in this market change regularly. So always check the current pricing page before you decide.

What each provider does best

Exact AI Connect is our own connector, so read this paragraph with that in mind. It works with all five major AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity), reads and writes, with every change first presented for confirmation. The Analytics variant also runs analyses over large datasets, such as margin per item and trends per period. The same connector exists for Twinfield and AFAS, support is Dutch, and the service is ISO 27001 certified and independently pentested. Essentials costs €29 per user per month, Analytics €79. You can read which of the two suits you in this comparison. In short, it is the only one on this list that combines reading, writing with confirmation and its own analysis environment, at a fixed amount without a price per question.

Praat met je Boekhouding (by Chef Data) has the lowest barrier to entry on the list: a permanently free plan with 200 tasks per month for 2 administrations, without a credit card. Writing is possible from the Pro plan of €49 per month. The connector only works with Exact Online and works with task quotas per plan, so anyone who asks a lot quickly outgrows the free plan. If you count on daily use with writing, you are already on Pro (€49) and the difference with a complete connector is small.

Ledger Botje (by Industrial IT) stands out for its depth in trade and logistics: sales orders, purchase orders, inventory management and even production orders and batch numbers can be handled through the connector. Basic costs €39 per month and is read-only. Writing is possible from Advanced for €59 per month. Note the monthly quota of 400 to 800 AI requests. Extra requests can be purchased separately. And just like the other direct API connectors, this route also runs into the limits of the Exact API during large analyses. The product is young, but the GDPR foundation with a processing agreement and EU hosting looks tidy.

Finance MCP (Productivity Advisors) deliberately opts for read-only: there is no write path to your accounting, and for some organisations that is precisely a reassurance. Its strongest point is the office bundle of €199 per month for 25 client administrations, relatively sharply priced per administration. The multi-package promise does deserve a note: as of July 2026 three packages are live (Exact Online, Moneybird and Business Central), while AFAS and Twinfield are listed as in development.

CData is an international data specialist that unlocks over 350 data sources through MCP, from Exact Online to CRM systems and databases. Anyone who wants to combine accounting data with many other business systems finds the greatest breadth here. The downside is that it is a generic SQL layer without accounting knowledge, the documentation is in English, and the cloud variant starts at $99 per month while the desktop version costs $499 per year per machine.

Zapier attaches its MCP offering to the existing platform with more than 9,000 apps. If you already use Zapier, you don't need to sign up for anything extra: every successful AI task costs 2 tasks from your credit, which works out to about 375 tasks per month on the Professional plan starting at $19.99 per month with annual billing. We didn't find an analysis layer for large datasets, and all traffic runs through Zapier's hosted platform, an American company, so factor that into your GDPR consideration.

Invantive is the Dutch data and SQL specialist with by far the largest table coverage: for Exact Online alone about 1,235 tables. The MCP route has been in beta since June 2026, works only with Claude and is read-only. For BI-style depth it's a party to watch, but for daily use the beta status with manual onboarding is still a hurdle.

Lots of data? Then watch the analysis route

Most connectors send every question straight to the Exact Online API, and that one is built on small portions: paginated results and a limited number of calls per minute. For individual questions you won't notice this. But an analysis such as revenue per customer per month over several years quickly means thousands of calls through that route, and then it gets slow or fails on the limits.

If you work with a large administration or many transactions, look at solutions that run analyses outside the API. Exact AI Connect does this with the separate analysis environment in the Analytics subscription, and Invantive solves it with its own data layer, although its MCP route is still beta and read-only. For smaller administrations the direct API route is fine.

And Exact itself?

Exact is also building AI. The Exact AI Assistant has been part of Exact Online since late 2024 and, according to Exact, is strong at navigation, how-to questions and process agents for bank, purchasing and receivables. Free financial analysis is more limited there: the analysis agents are marked as beta by Exact itself. More relevant for this comparison: on its roadmap page Exact mentions its own MCP server, labelled "planned" and without a date, price or tool list. In Exact's own words: "With MCP, AI agents can retrieve data in real time, run analyses and start actions within Exact Online." If it arrives, the market shifts again, and the question becomes what controls are placed on writing. Until then you choose from the parties above if you want to work with your own AI assistant.

Update September 2026: new MCP servers and the question about 60 records

Jortt has its own MCP server. Since late August 2026 Jortt has offered a free MCP server for its own users, with the choice between read-only and read plus write. That is not an alternative to an Exact Online connector, because it works only with Jortt, but it is a signal: package vendors are going to offer MCP themselves, and the question shifts from "can it be done" to "how safely does it write".

About "up to 60 records per question". A comparison from another provider claims that Exact AI Connect Essentials retrieves a maximum of 60 records per question. That is the page size of the Exact Online API, not a ceiling: the assistant fetches the next pages on its own. For aggregations over large sets, such as revenue per customer per month, the Analytics variant uses the analysis environment, which handles the summing itself, so the Exact API is not drained.

Choose based on your situation

  • Freelancer who mainly wants to read: start with the 30 days free of Exact AI Connect: all features, no quota per question, and you see straight away what writing and analyses add. If you then really want a permanently free plan, the entry plan of Praat met je Boekhouding is available, read-only and with a quota.
  • SME with a team: you want to write with a confirmation step, multiple users and permissions per role. That brings you to Exact AI Connect; Ledger Botje is the alternative if orders and inventory are your only core process.
  • Accountancy firm: with clients on Exact, Twinfield and AFAS, Exact AI Connect is the only one that covers all three, with volume discounts on extra administrations. If read-only on a single package is enough, the firm bundle of Finance MCP is a cheap alternative.
  • E-commerce and trade: margin per item, return flows and trends across large datasets run on the Analytics variant of Exact AI Connect. Ledger Botje goes deeper into orders and inventory management; if your automation already runs on Zapier, then Zapier MCP can be a first step.
  • Larger business or many transactions: choose a solution with its own analysis environment instead of a direct API route, otherwise the most interesting analyses will hit the limits of Exact. With Exact AI Connect that is the Analytics subscription.

Example prompts to test yourself

Every comparison stays on paper until you try it yourself. Start a trial period and put these questions to your candidate:

Which sales invoices have been open for more than 60 days, and what is the total amount?

Give the top 10 customers by revenue this year and compare them with the same period last year.

Which cost items rose the most this quarter compared with last quarter?

Create a new relation with the details I give you, and show everything for review first before you save anything.

Frequently asked questions

For most entrepreneurs Exact AI Connect is the most complete choice: reading, writing with a confirmation step and analyses on large data sets, with your own AI assistant and also for Twinfield and AFAS. The alternatives with a free reading plan or a stock focus lack writing with confirmation, an analysis environment, or both.

A truly usable free AI connector does not exist: the free entry plans are without exception read-only and come with a strict quota, which works out to a few questions per working day. To try all features for free, including writing and analyses, use the 30 days of Exact AI Connect.

Yes, but not everywhere. With Exact AI Connect writing is included by default and the AI submits every change for confirmation first. With the alternatives it is not possible, or only in the more expensive paid plans.

Not for most connectors, but it does work for your work experience; we compared ChatGPT and Claude for this use. Do check the support beforehand: some connectors only work with one assistant, while Exact AI Connect works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity.
