Look up a KVK number with AI: just ask your assistant

Try typing this into your AI assistant, with a company of your choice in place of the placeholder:

"Look up [company name] in the Trade Register and give me the Chamber of Commerce number."

A few seconds later, there it is. Not from the language model's memory, but retrieved at that moment from the Trade Register of the Chamber of Commerce. That is KVK Handelsregister AI Connect: a free connector from iWebDevelopment that queries the Trade Register from your AI assistant. We think it is the most enjoyable demonstration of what such a connector can do, precisely because there is so little to set up. No form, no manual. A question in plain language, an answer from the register.

The connector works through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that connects AI assistants to software. Claude and ChatGPT both support that standard. You do not need an accounting package, nor an API key, and since August 2026 the connector is open to everyone.

Start with a name

You can search by company name. For each hit you get the Chamber of Commerce number, the name, the establishment number and whether it concerns a main establishment or a branch establishment. Where the register discloses this, the street and town are included.

Try it with your own company first. That is the strongest test there is: you know exactly what should be listed, so you see immediately whether it is correct. Then your biggest client, or that new supplier of which you only have a name on an invoice.

And because it is a conversation, you can ask follow-up questions. "That second hit, is that a main establishment?" simply works; your assistant looks at the result already there and answers.

Ask on for the full profile

The Chamber of Commerce number is the key to the second function, the company profile:

"Retrieve the full profile for Chamber of Commerce number [number]."

What comes back is the statutory name, all trade names, the legal form, the RSIN (the number with which the Tax Authority, among others, identifies a legal entity), the registration date, the number of people employed, the SBI activities (the standardised description of what a company does) and the address of the main establishment. Everything you fill in when you create a new relationship, and everything you check before a quote or agreement goes out the door.

You do not have to take those two steps yourself, by the way. Ask "what is the legal form of [company name]?" and your assistant first looks up the number, uses it to retrieve the profile and gives you only the answer you asked for. That feels small. It is precisely why this works more pleasantly than a search screen.

Search by address, postcode or town as well

The search function takes more than a name. It also accepts a Chamber of Commerce number, a town, a postcode, a street and a house number, separately or combined. That opens up questions you would not quickly ask in a search screen:

"Which company is registered at [postcode] [house number]?"

"Which establishments of [company name] are there in [town]?"

The first is handy for an address you cannot place, for example on an incoming invoice. The second combines a town with part of a name and shows which establishments are registered there, with their establishment numbers included.

Set it up in five minutes

Signing up is done at mcp-kvk.iwebdevelopment.com with your e-mail address. You receive a login link in your mail, add the connector to your AI assistant, and that's it. Five minutes, and that's a generous estimate.

The monthly allowance: 50 searches and 25 profiles per organisation, free. It counts per organisation and not per person, so your colleagues search along on the same allowance. Anyone who builds the same thing on the KVK API pays 6.40 euro per month per API key and 0.02 euro per basic profile (searching is free there; rates as of 1 January 2026), and then still has to write and maintain the connector.

Good to know: the connector only reads. It works alongside your systems and changes nothing anywhere. iWebDevelopment is ISO 27001 certified and the connector has been independently pentested by an external party.

One honest limit

The Trade Register only covers Dutch companies. So you won't find your Belgian supplier or German customer here. That's not a limitation of the connector but of the register itself, and we prefer to just mention it. The best first question is about a company you know well yourself. Your own business. Your biggest customer. The building across the street. You can check the answer yourself, and that is exactly why it convinces.
