Exact Online MCP servers compared: CData, Zapier, Peliqan and AI Connect (2026)

The MCP ecosystem around Exact Online grew fast in the last year, and the options differ more than their landing pages suggest. Not long ago, connecting Claude or ChatGPT to your bookkeeping meant building something yourself. In July 2026 you choose between data connectivity giants, automation platforms, data warehouses and accounting-specific connectors, all speaking MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that gives AI assistants safe access to your software.

That choice matters more than it seems. The platforms differ in where your credentials live, whether the AI reads live data or a synced copy, whether it can write to your administration, and what a realistic monthly bill looks like. This comparison puts five serious Exact Online MCP server options side by side, using their published pricing as of July 2026.

What each platform genuinely does well

CData: breadth and a desktop option

CData is the veteran here, with connectivity to 350+ data sources built on years of driver technology. The free open-source server on GitHub is read-only and technical (Java, Maven and a licensed JDBC driver), but the paid desktop server gives you full read and write for $499 per year, running entirely on your own machine. If you want your AI to query Exact Online next to CRM systems and databases through one layer, almost nobody matches this reach. The trade-off: it exposes generic SQL tables, with no accounting guardrails, and no Twinfield or AFAS support was published as of July 2026.

Zapier: the ecosystem play

Zapier's strength is that MCP comes free with the platform you may already pay for. There is no separate MCP fee; each successful tool call costs 2 tasks from your plan, and the Professional plan starts at $19.99 per month, billed annually, for 750 tasks. That works out to roughly 375 AI calls a month, which sounds like a lot until you watch an exploratory conversation fire a burst of search calls in a minute. The Exact Online app is action-oriented with 80+ write actions, but there is no analytics layer, and Zapier itself marks some actions, including sales invoice creation, as not replay-safe. A repeated run can create duplicates.

Peliqan: the data platform angle

Peliqan, a Belgian company, takes a different route: it syncs your Exact Online data into a built-in warehouse and lets the AI query that copy. You get cross-source joins across 300+ tools, full history and no pressure on API rate limits. It also lists AFAS and Twinfield connectors, though Twinfield is read-only with 22 tables. One caveat is the sync interval: the copy refreshes every 6 hours by default, so "what was booked today" may be stale. Another is writeback, which is listed under the €500 per month PRO plan, while its availability in the €15 MCP tier is unclear.

Invantive: SQL depth, Claude-only beta

Nobody exposes more of Exact Online than Invantive: roughly 1,235 tables behind a mature SQL layer, with a long track record in Power BI and OData connections. The platform pricing is friendly too, from a free tier to €119 per month. The MCP route, however, has been in beta since June 2026, capped at 50 participants, works with Claude only, and is read-only. Onboarding is manual, including phone verification. Strong foundations, early days.

Where Exact AI Connect fits in

Exact AI Connect takes the opposite bet from the generalists: depth in accounting instead of breadth in data sources. The connection is built around Dutch and Belgian bookkeeping practice, so the AI works with concepts like VAT codes and outstanding items rather than raw tables.

Write actions are supported, and every create, update or delete goes through a confirmation step: the AI shows you what it intends to change before anything touches your books. The Analytics plan adds analysis on large datasets, including margin per item, trends per period and export to Excel, where a direct API connection quickly runs into record limits.

You bring your own assistant: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity. The service is ISO 27001 certified, independently pentested with the results fully public, and an official Exact Online partner. The same product exists for Twinfield and AFAS, useful for accounting firms with a mixed client base. Pricing is €29 (Essentials) or €79 (Analytics) per user per month with one administration included, extra administrations from €10 to €25 per month, no setup costs and monthly cancellation.

To be fair in our own comparison: if your main goal is joining accounting data with CRM and marketing tools, Peliqan or CData fit better. If you already run your business on Zapier, start there. If the job is bookkeeping, depth beats breadth.

Exact's own MCP server is on the roadmap

One more player deserves a mention: Exact itself. According to Exact, a first-party MCP server is on the public roadmap, described as a way to let AI applications work with data, tools and processes inside Exact Online with central governance. No release date has been published, and as of July 2026 its live status is unknown. If you need a working connection today, you are choosing among the five options above. The good news: MCP is an open standard, so a switch later is far less painful than a classic integration migration.
